What is UDISE Code and How to Find It?
The Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) code is an 11-digit unique identification number assigned to every recognized school in India. Initiated by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India, the UDISE system acts as the largest management information system on school education, covering millions of schools across the country.
Why is the UDISE Code Important?
The UDISE code is essentially the "Aadhaar card for schools." It is mandatory for various official purposes, including:
- Student Transfers: When a student moves from one school to another, the Transfer Certificate (TC) must mention the UDISE code of both the previous and new schools.
- Board Registrations: For CBSE, ICSE, and state board registrations, schools must provide their verified 11-digit UDISE code.
- Government Schemes: Schools applying for government grants, scholarships (like the National Scholarship Portal), or programs like PM SHRI require this code.
- RTE Admissions: Under the Right to Education Act, schools need a valid UDISE code to process free admissions and receive reimbursements.
How to Find a School's UDISE Code
Finding a school's UDISE code can sometimes be challenging if you don't know the exact official name. Our UDISE Code Finder tool simplifies this process. You can search using:
- School Name: Enter the partial or full name of the school. (e.g., "Delhi Public School").
- District or City: If there are multiple schools with the same name, append the city name (e.g., "DAV Public School Pune").
- PIN Code: Use the PIN code of the school's location for a hyper-local search.
Once you hit search, our system instantly retrieves data from the verified national registry, giving you the exact 11-digit code, management type (Private/Government), and full address.
Structure of the 11-Digit UDISE Code
The UDISE code is not a random number; it has a specific geographical hierarchy built into it. Here is how the 11 digits are broken down:
- First 2 digits: State code (e.g., 27 for Maharashtra, 09 for Uttar Pradesh).
- Next 2 digits: District code within the state.
- Next 2 digits: Block / Tehsil code within the district.
- Next 3 digits: Village / Ward code within the block.
- Last 2 digits: Sequential school number within that specific village or ward.
This structure ensures that no two schools in India can ever have the same UDISE code. If a school shifts to a different district or state, its UDISE code changes to reflect the new location.
